PDF Merger
What Is It?
The PDF Merger is a professional-grade utility for joining multiple PDF files into a single, seamless document. In a world of fragmented digital files, this tool helps you consolidate reports, chapters, receipts, and presentations into one organized package.
Built on top of the robust pdf-lib engine, our merger provides a secure, serverless way to manage your documents without ever letting your sensitive data leave your browser.
How to Use
- Upload PDFs: Select two or more PDF files you wish to join.
- Review List: Confirm the files and their order in the generated list.
- Merge: Click Merge PDFs. The tool will process the internal page trees of all your documents.
- Download: Grab your new, combined PDF instantly.
Benefits
- Zero-Trust Security: Most online PDF tools upload your files to their cloud. Our tool performs the merge in your browser’s local sandbox—your secrets stay secret.
- Unlimited Usage: No “3 merges per day” limits. Merge as many files as you need for free.
- High Fidelity: We preserve the internal structure of your PDFs, including text, vectors, and embedded fonts.
- Fast Performance: Processing happens at local memory speeds, avoiding the slow upload/download cycle of cloud-based competitors.
Common Use Cases
- Contract Consolidation: Joining a signed signature page with the main body of a legal contract.
- Academic Submissions: Merging a cover letter, essay, and bibliography into a single submission file.
- Monthly Reporting: Combining separate PDF invoices or bank statements from an entire month into one archive.
- E-book Creation: Reassembling separate chapter PDFs into a complete book.
Technical Implementation: The Page Copying Process
When you click “Merge,” our tool initializes a new, empty PDF document. It then iterates through each of your uploaded files, “copying” the internal page objects (which include the content stream, resources, and inherited attributes) and “injecting” them into the new document’s page tree. Finally, it regenerates the document’s cross-reference table and trailers to ensure a valid, standards-compliant PDF file.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does it keep my bookmarks / table of contents?
Merging can be complex for internal links and bookmarks. Generally, our tool preserves the individual pages perfectly, but high-level document metadata like a “global” table of contents may need to be manually recreated in a PDF editor if it spans multiple files.
Is there a file size limit?
We support files up to 20MB each. For massive PDFs (e.g., 500-page scanned documents), your browser’s RAM will determine the processing speed.
Can I merge password-protected PDFs?
No. For security reasons, the browser cannot read the internal page tree of an encrypted PDF without the owner’s password. You must unlock the PDF before merging.
Why is this better than cloud-based mergers?
Privacy is the main reason. By merging locally, you ensure that no third party ever has a copy of your sensitive documents. It’s also significantly faster because you aren’t waiting on your internet connection to upload/download heavy files.
